Selecting a bike is not as easy as we think. Here are the nine factors that should be considered while choosing a bike. Don't ever select the first bike that you see. Firstly, before going to the store, research a bit; it will help you and provide a better understanding of how many kinds of bikes are there, which one goes for what type of road, and where you want to ride the bike. This will provide some basic knowledge and understanding of which bike to see through.
You might be shocked knowing the nine factors that can help you select a good match while buying a bike –
Whether going for a new bike or a used bike and which brand to opt for.
It's all your choice whether you want to opt for a new bike or a used bike. Opting for a used bike, especially mountain bikes, is a worthy option. It can be of great value if you can inspect the bike closely, including every minute detail of the bike, like the drivetrain system, wheels, brake system, and suspension. Ensure that there is almost no or very little wear and tear on the bike. If the damaged part can be replaced and the bike costs you less than the new bike, then selecting a used bike should not be a problem. If the wear and tear are manageable and in good condition, never forget to check whether the cycle makes a squeaking noise or not. The squeaking noise may be due to bearings in the front brakes. Make sure that the front brakes are stable too. The noise can also be due to other minor defects; make sure that you see even the little glitches in the bike.
Determine which size is the best one for you
Finding the right size of the bike is significant because the wrong size may lead to sprains and minor injuries. The wrong size may also lead to frequently falling, loss of balance and slow speed. The correct bike size provides a comfortable posture and won't cause foot or knee injuries. Keep in mind to check frame size, saddle, pedal position and handlebar height according to the body measurements. Sometimes, few bikes have an adjustable handlebar that helps to provide comfort for all the riders irrespective of the height. If a more significant number of riders of the same cycle, an adjustable handlebar is a good option. But non-adjustable handlebars are sturdier.
Determine which brake system you would like
There are different brakes types, but the brakes should be efficient and precise to avoid falling and injuries.
Disc brakes
Rim brakes
Drum brakes
Coaster brakes
Fixed-gear brakes
Being a casual rider, you should opt for disc brakes because they provide better control and avoid pitfalls.
Choose the gearing for the bike according to the use.
According to cogs, cranks, a number of teeth on the cogs and chainrings, the gearing system gets more complex yet efficient. Choosing the right gearing system is very important depending upon where you have to ride a bike and what kind of cyclist you are. If you are a strong cyclist, choosing a bike with a smaller number of gears is a good option. If you are a casual cyclist, then a cycle with more loads can also be an option. A strong cyclist usually chooses a bike with no gears or a smaller number of gears because shifting gears hinders the speed and smoothness of the ride. Many gears provide a more comfortable riding speed but have moving time.
What is the right wheel size for you?
Depending on the kind of the rider and the road on which the bike is to be ridden, the right wheel size is chosen. There are a variety of sizes to choose from, ranging from 650c or more minor to even 29 inches. 'c' stands for clinchers measured in diameters. 27-inch wheel size is for rough terrain, while experienced mountain bikers choose 29 inches wheel size. Tire size with 650c or lower is perfect for children's bikes. In contrast, the 700c wheel size is ideal for most riders and flat surfaces.
Know about the suspension system
The suspension system helps make the ride smooth and vibration-free on rough terrains. Usually, in budget bikes, a suspension system is suitable for casual riders and beginners; it also makes the cycle inexpensive and well-balanced. The firm suspension provides good strength rather than complacent. Hybrid bikes and mountain bikes have a solid front suspension system for more durability, smooth, and effortless ride
Now the life of the bike
It is essential to know what material the bike is made of to better understand the strengths and weaknesses. This accounts for the life of the cycle and accounts for the weight and durability. Most bikes are made of aluminium, making them light, durable, and inexpensive. Carbon fibre is used in mountain bikes because it makes them brittle, flexible, and expensive. How well the bike frame is tubes butted and welded determines how strong the bike is.
Determine the right handlebar for you
For effortless and comfortable cycling, the handlebar needs to be perfectly suitable according to the rider. Drop bars work perfectly in road bikes, being light and having good aerodynamic qualities but still cause some back pain. Riser bars are found in mountain bikes because it provides more comfort, better control and good steering qualities. The Moustache bar is not ordinary but is still found in mountain and road bikes, provides better hand positions and maintains upright body posture during cycling.
Choose the right bike type
Location is one of the crucial factors when deciding upon the type of bike to go for. Different bikes have different features. It's all a matter of preference and the requirement. Depending upon the preference and the requirement, the rifer can choose between mountain bikes, hybrid bikes and road bikes. All three have different features that are suitable for riding on other surfaces. Road bikes are ideal for long-distance rides being lightweight ad easy to handle. A mountain bike is a good option for a better off riding experience and comfort over rugged platforms because of the better and good resistance capabilities. Hybrid bikes are suitable for a casual ride and lie between road bikes and mountain bikes when performance, durability and stability are preferred
Go out for a ride and experience!
Nothing can be better than actually going on a ride before final selection. Keeping in mind the above mentioned nine crucial factors and a bit of research, focus on every minute detail. Experience durability, manoeuvrability, comfort and stability during the ride. Try to take a short distance ride.
